These Boots Were Made For Walkin...

A good boot is hard to find but its an essential for the winter months when the typical ballet flats and skimmers are just not going to be enough to protect a girl from the elements. Unfortunately most manufacturers have forgotten the fact that boots, unlike other shoes cannot be measured just by standard shoe size. A ridiculous conceit given that a boot covers about half your leg! You'd think they'd alot for the fact that different people have different calf sizes but seemingly that would require too much common sense for them to handle.

As such TFFF attempts to take a little bit of the guesswork out of things by showcasing our favorite wide calf boots for winter. We've got gorgeous colors, amazing leathers and a few good links just in case you want to look for something a little different than what we've offered.

A few boots worth lusting after

I'm skipping past some of the usual suspects - we all know the Avenue has a good selection of wide calf boots and that Silhouettes has always got you covered but it may come as a surprise that preppy favorite J. Crew offers a decent selection of extended calf boots as well. My personal favorites being the classic Tenley high heel - an exceedingly versatile chocolate brown boot and the Richmond low heel, a great flat pair for the days when you just don't feel like bothering with anything high.

There's also a wealth of online boutiques with great little boots. DUO Boots has wide selection of everything from the funky to the everyday. I love the Messina, a ruched vintage inspired pair, the Moselle, another ruched style but this time in creamy suede. Of course for anyone who loves the equestrian look there is the Bonn, an amazing heeled boot thats equal parts equestrian and cowgirl - especially in that perfect weathered grey color. DUO also has so many great options that its fun just to look around. Another online shop that impressed me was Buckles and Bows. A UK outpost (don't worry they ship to the US) with the truly amazing Pout Boots, an absolute must even if they're temporarily out of stock. Buckles and Bows also has great range of everything from animal print to Chloe-redux stacked heels so snoop around you're sure to find something you're into.

I'd like to think that there's a little something for everyone - and if for some reason you don't have wide calves but just love cute boots almost all these styles come in a smaller calf versions too.

So those are my favorite boots right now - what are yours? How will you be keeping your feet warm this season? For the love of all thats right and good don't say Uggs.

Hunting High & Low : Lace Up Oxford Heels

Lace up high heeled oxfords are my accessory obsession for fall. Perhaps its just my prep school past creeping up but there is something so appealing about a good oxford. They're familiar, cute and they go with everything from jeans to skirts. Add on a high heel and you get a girlish take on a traditionally masculine staple. It seems like every other shoe maker is coming out with their own unique take on this trend. Here are a few options from affordable to extravagant.

UNDER $100 | Maroon Patent Oxfords $89 - Steve Madden | Metallic Silver Oxfords $34 - Delia's | Tartan Oxfords $89 - Steve Madden
$100 - $250 | Black Patent Oxfords $280 - Stuart Weisman | Grey Suede Oxfords - Circa Joan & David | Black & White Spectator Pumps - Betsey Johnson $230
$250 & Up | Two-tone Oxfords $450 - Marc by Marc Jacobs | Black & Gold Patent Oxfords $695 - Christian Louboutin | Spectator Pumps $575 - Bally

I love those little silver booties from Delia's they're so cute and cheap. Granted, silver shoes aren't the most practical fashion item but at that price practicality just goes out the window. For a bigger splurge I've been wanting those Bally's so badly. They keep popping up in editorials and catching my eye - they remind me so much of spats. I may just have to treat myself...

Anyone else digging this trend? I think these will look so great paired with jeans - can't wait to start wearing them.

Hunting High & Low: Spring Flats

Shoes. Shoes. Shoes. OMG Shoes. Nothing is better than a great pair of shoes and when the weather gets warm I live in ballet flats. They've become part of my uniform and a good pair of flats is more useful than a swiss army knife, you can dress them up, you can dress them down and you can walk a mile in them without any trouble. Such things are priceless, especially come springtime when one wants nothing more than to shake off those snow boots and show off their pedicure in the cutest shoes they can find. This season ballet flats are going to be everywhere in an array of eyecatching colors and prints that just beg to be worn. In our new feature Hunting High & Low we tackle the trend for all budgets with shoes ranging from under $50 to over $200 there is something for everyone in search of that perfect spring pair.

Budget Conscious? $10 - 50:
Urban Outfitters - Pretty Little Ballet flats $20
Gap - Patent flats $30
Cars - Polka dot flats $14

In Search of a Little Splurge? $100 - 200:
London Sole - Green suede flats $100
Corso Como - Yellow cut out flats $135

Sky's The Limit? $200 & Up:

Personally I'm jonesing for that yellow pair and those Gap patents. Wouldn't mind those Miu Miu's either... The Hardy's are cute but too rich for my blood! Anyone else in love with any of springs flats?
